BMW M 1000 XR 2024 TRACK RENTAL 1 SHIFT 15 MINUTES

BMW M 1000 XR. Much more than a sports tourer!

BMW's M class is dedicated exclusively to its fastest superbikes, and the M 1000 XR is no exception.

The German company has confirmed that the M XR will boast the in-line four-cylinder engine 999 cc of the S 1000 RR. It will produce up to 210 horsepower (> 147 kW) a 13,750 rpm and a torque of up to 113 Nm at 11,100 rpm which, combined with its curb weight of 211 kg, the lightweight lithium battery and the Akrapovic titanium exhaust , help it reach a maximum speed of 280 km/h.

The objective is certainly to gain in lightness: the RR and R weigh less than 200 kg in running order but it is unlikely that the XR can also reach this weight given the 20 liter tank and the heavier rear structure. Certainly the M setup will remain below 226 kg.

Another novelty will concern the cycling with Marzocchi suspension and signature blue anodized brake calipers Nissin and 17-inch carbon fiber wheels.

To better clarify the performance, just make a comparison with the S 1000 XR currently on sale which produces 165 horsepower, weighs 226 kg and boasts a top speed of 260 km/h. limited electronically.

Maximum speed aside, the increased power will also be more usable thanks to the BMW's ShiftCam technology which consists of a variable titanium intake valve timing system.

This technology allows for differential valve lift which helps improve combustion and efficiency (this translates into four percent lower fuel consumption and in the M version it will “give” at least 45 hp more power than the S version .

The gear ratios will also change, although the six-speed transmission will likely remain unchanged.

BMW M 1000 XR. Top of the range components

Power is nothing without control was a famous advertising slogan . The BMW M 1000XR's enhanced performance is nothing if you can't put it to the ground.

For these reasons the M 1000 XR will be equipped with updates in the safety and controls sector.

For starters, it will ride on 45mm Marzocchi upside-down forks and a monoshock, both identical to the M 1000 R.

These will be equipped with electronic regulation and Dynamic Damping Control from BMW capable of automatically adjusting the suspension in milliseconds to adapt to your driving maneuvers (braking, acceleration or steering) ensuring maximum stability.

Part of the package will also be a hat-trick of BMW M brakes which include the Nissin calipers , developed directly with BMW's learnings in  WSBK championship . These will be set on 17-inch forged aluminum wheels (w/ Metzeler rubber like the M 1000 R) to reduce mass.

BMW will sell with its accessories package M Carbon.

On top of this will be a new saddle, (probably taller than the S 1000 XR's 33-inch seat). This, together with the raised footrests, should allow for sportier ergonomics without sacrificing comfort. Combine all this and the M XR should be a perfect superbike suitable not only for the road but also for the track.

Aerodynamic fins and recalibrated electronics.

The last pieces of the puzzle will be aerodynamics and electronics.

What stands out are the beefy side fins, which bear little resemblance to those we've seen on existing M motorcycles.

The aim remains the same: to reduce the tendency to wheelie when opening the accelerator when exiting corners. Furthermore, we can also spot aerodynamic spoilers near the new passenger seat and a short smoked windshield at the top.

With regard to electronics , the M 1000 XR will feature the same all-LED lights and 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster. But the latter will give you access to updated rider aids that will help you manage the 200+ hp beast.

The BMW Motorrad package remains amazing and does not differ much from the S XR:

  • BMW Pro driving modes;
  • wheelie control; ·
  • the pit lane limiter;
  • engine braking control and traction control;
  • bidirectional quick change and sliding control; ·
  • heated grips, cruise control and TPMS .

Finally, the special M livery will help create a unique identity.
